Method and limits
The general-market board was calibrated against drawdowns of at least 12% since 2004, with longer histories used where the data allows. Not every gauge leads. Several deliberately confirm severity only after a decline begins. Known blind spots include valuation, positioning, sudden policy shocks and rate-driven declines in which traditional recession signals arrive late.
